Game Trailer Power Hour

August 15, 2010

Since it’s the weekend, and I’m sure you’re all terribly missing out on your MvG crack addiction, I’ve decided to start a little post to bring together a handful of new (and old!) trailers that might strike a fancy – or even do the opposite – with my fellow MAN’s Clan! Already I’ve posted a trailer for the quite lovely Bioshock Infinite and, well, one trailer to a post seems to be a little dramatic lest I write more than a page for them. So to begin each new week, I’ll make it a habit to post trailers, and possibly some various other things, each Sunday (or every other Sunday should good old laziness kick in) in the new Trailer Power Hour! (Current name pending!)

Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Gameplay Trailer

A couple days ago, the beautiful Eidos Montreal posted their newest trailer, revealing gameplay for Deus Ex: Human Revolution, the latest installment to the Deus Ex series. Again we return to the style of a ‘prequel’ game, as Human Revolution has itself set 25 years before the original Deus Ex. As for how the FPSRPG matches up to the past two games, especially with a long 7+ years between Invisible War and the 2011 release for Human Revolution, it’ll be interesting to see if it’ll fair in the new generation ring.

Vanquish

E3 ’10 Trailer

Sticking with the somewhat ‘futuristic’ theme comes Vanquish, a game in development by Platinum Games. Coming from the mind of Shinji Mikami, the creator of the popular Resident Evil series, it’ll be his first under the P+ label. Compared to most other games by P+ and their original Clover Studios label, Vanquish seems to drop the sarcastic undertones and goes for something that may be a bit more serious… and a bit goofy-looking. Vanquish will be pulling for an October 2010 release.

Metroid: Other M

E3 ’10 Trailer

Again to fit into ‘futuristic’ theme, from Project M and Nintendo comes Metroid: Other M. I know, I know, “we’ve already seen Metroid M, why the hell are you showing it to us!” Well, because I want to – that and the Metroid series is a classic to tie in with the retro theme of MvG, with Other M’s release practically right around the corner, hopefully without another delay. And without a doubt, even the graphics are absolutely beautiful. Here’s hoping to another great installment for the series, showing up on the 31st of August!

Dead Space 2

Trailer

Creepy… aaand more creepy. You can’t say you didn’t see this coming, right? Dead Space 2 is developed by Visceral Games, and is a much anticipated sequel to the original. With more development to an intense storyline, we see Isaac Clarke continue to struggle through this Survival Horror game. Here’s hoping that not all sequels are worse than the first. Dead Space 2 is planning to be released in January of 2011.

Vindictus (Mabinogi Heroes)

Trailer

Okay, okay, let’s rewind a bit here for a second. Going back into time isn’t all that bad, right? From devCAT and Nexon, we get a classic-style, Celtic-inspired MMO by the name of Vindictus, or Mabinogi Heroes in Korea. Now, admittedly, I’m just putting this here so I can gush a little (and boy, do I love to gush!), but hey, it’s not that bad, right? Vindictus is a hack-and-slash style MMORPG, possibly reminiscent of God of War, throwing in the tedious sidequests and putting you in a war laden land. Allowing you to customize your own armor and dealing with a way in-depth storyline, this game is just right. With a Closed Beta currently in progress, Vindictus is set for this year’s Q4 as a release.

Etrian Odyssey III: The Drowned City

Trailer

Breaking away from the typical console and PC based games, we get Etrian Odyssey III: The Drowned City for the Nintendo DS, developed by the oh-so-awesome Atlus. Set in the beautiful Armoroad, the dungeon crawler gameplay requires you to take the role of a guild leader, pulling your team through the Yggdrasil labyrinth to finish the ultimate quest: mapping out said maze! With old school RPG battles, some insane foes (heheh… I said FOE…) and character design that’s to die for… well, why aren’t you playing it yet?! With the possibility of linking your old games to the new one, I’ll be busy catching up on the first two. EO3: The Drowned City will be finding it’s way to North America in September of this year.

Welp, that’s about it for this post! I hope you enjoyed the trailers, and- what’s that? Oh right, I said old trailers too, huh? Let me think about that…

Ico

Trailer

Now, I haven’t got the chance to play Ico myself, but let me tell you, am I ever desperate to. A game released before Shadow of the Colossus, Ico takes place after SotC in storyline. Developed by the mind-blowing Team Ico, the game is one of many feasts for the eyes. Hopefully I don’t have to tell you too much about it, as even the trailer alone is more than enough.

And there you have it! Thanks for bearing with me if you even made it all the way to the end, watching trailer after trailer, reading my terrible schmuck. If you have any thoughts on the games above, if there’s any trailers you’d like to see in next week’s post, or if there’s anything in particular that I should change, don’t be afraid to post below! Until next Sunday, see you folks at the next Trailer Power Hour! (Current name still pending!)
