As of yesterday, New Super Mario Bros. Wii is now the fastest selling game to hit 10 million sales on a single console! It’s-a Mario’s world, baby. We all just live in it.
According to vgchartz.com, the seemingly (but sometimes literally) Invincible Plumber of Nintendo fame went on to sell his 10 millionth copy of New Super Mario Bros. Wii, making it the fastest selling game to reach such a milestone. Released in the U.S. on November 15, 2009, it took only 8 weeks for Nintendo to reach that magic number in sales, easily beating the previous record of 10 weeks, held by 3rd party publisher, Rockstar Games, with Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Hey, but don’t feel bad for GTA: SA… it still holds the record for highest selling game on the PS2.
Considering that the game has only been out for eight weeks with no signs of slowing down and that Super Mario Galaxy 2 is expected to be unleashed on the world sometime later this year, it would appear that 2010 may very well be another unstoppable year for Nintendo and their mustachioed mascot.
