VGM with a Twist: I Fight Dragons

August 15, 2010

So, everyone loves some good old video game music. I do as well, but, I especially love it if it has a bit of a twist to it. A twist you say? What do I mean by that? Well, let me show you.

This week, I bring to you one of my favorite bands: I Fight Dragons.

I Fight Dragons is a chiptune pop-rock band. They pull together the “normal” rock band persona of vocals, drums, guitars, bass, and mix it together with chiptunes. Not only this, but they play the chiptunes live on stage, with use of NES and SNES controllers, power pad, rock band guitar, NES Zapper and even a power glove.

For a taste of what they sound like, you can watch their video for Heads Up Hearts Down here: http://www.ifightdragons.com/video/heads-up-hearts-down-official-video/

But, for an extra bit of geeky-ness, if you have an old pair of red and blue 3D glasses, you can view the video as it was meant to be seen here: http://www.ifightdragons.com/video/heads-up-hearts-down-3d/

What I love about this band, is that they are all about the fans. They only just recently became signed to Photo Finish/Atlantic Records, only having been around for about a year. Their EP Cool is just a Number was re released on iTunes this year, with the hopes of having a new CD out later this year.

Oh, and they are genuine geeks. They all play video games, one member can play Punch Out backwards, with only the sound for guidance* and another even has a tattoo of a power glove on her arm.

For more information on I Fight Dragons, you can go to their website here: http://www.ifightdragons.com/ (They even have a fun game to play!) And while your there, don’t forget to sign up for the mailing list, and get ~four~ free songs for doing so!

*I have video proof of this event if anyone would ever like to see it.

(also, thanks to MAN for helping me out a bit)

Oh dear goodness…I forgot to mention that they have video games playing on screens for people to watch while they play live. This is what I get for writing while tired >.<

(Awesome that they’ve got games playing while they play live. I love a good concert that’s not afraid to punch me in the face with all the media they’ve got!)
